Affected APIs[App Events API](https://shopify.dev/changelog?api_type=app-events-api)

You can now make your app’s activity available for merchants in [Shopify Analytics](https://www.shopify.com/analytics). Merchants can explore your app’s metrics and dimensions in the report builder or query them with ShopifyQL using [`FROM app_events`](https://shopify.dev/docs/api/shopifyql/latest/syntax/from-and-show#facttable-propertydetail-appevents).

## What changed

Apps can now declare events in an [`analytics_app_events` extension](https://shopify.dev/docs/apps/build/app-events/analytics). When an app sends a declared event through the App Events API, merchants can report on it in Shopify Analytics.

* Use Shopify-defined standard events for common event types, such as emails sent.
* Define custom events with attributes and metrics specific to your app.
* Extend standard events with your own attributes and metrics.

## Who's affected

This capability is available to developers who want merchants to report on activity from their installed apps in Shopify Analytics.

If your app already sends events for Dev Dashboard logs or billing, those events don’t automatically become available in Shopify Analytics. They must match a released Analytics App Events declaration. Existing App Events integrations don't need to change unless you want your events to appear in Shopify Analytics.

## Why this matters

Merchants can now see your app's activity in Shopify Analytics, without leaving Shopify or opening a separate dashboard, and you don't need to build or host your own analytics. Your app shows up wherever merchants analyze their business.

## What to do

No action is required unless you want to make app activity available in Shopify Analytics.

To get started, declare your standard or custom events in an `analytics_app_events` extension in `shopify.extension.toml`. For example, an email marketing app can declare the standard email-sent event:

```toml
[[extensions]]
type = "analytics_app_events"
handle = "app-events"
[[extensions.events]]
name = "shopify.marketing.email_sent"
kind = "standard"
```

Release the configuration with `shopify app deploy`, then send matching events through the App Events API for stores where your app is installed.

Once the events are processed, merchants can report on emails sent over time using ShopifyQL:

```sql
FROM app_events
  SHOW emails_sent
  TIMESERIES day
```

Follow the [App Events in Analytics guide](https://shopify.dev/docs/apps/build/app-events/analytics) to get started.
