# Global Catalog REST API stops serving traffic on November 2, 2026

DateOctober 9, 2026

SurfacesCatalog

The Global Catalog REST API, which was deprecated in April 2026, stops serving traffic on November 2, 2026. If your app still calls it, you need to migrate to Global Catalog MCP, which implements the Universal Commerce Protocol (UCP), before that date.

### What's changing

In April 2026, we deprecated the [Global Catalog REST API](https://shopify.dev/docs/api/catalog-api) and replaced it with [Global Catalog MCP](https://shopify.dev/docs/agents/catalog/global-catalog).

On November 2, 2026, the REST API stops serving traffic. After that, all requests to `https://discover.shopifyapps.com/global/...` will fail, including requests against saved catalogs. That covers:

* `GET /global/v2/search`
* `GET /global/v2/p/{upid}`
* `GET /global/v2/p/by-variant/{vid}`
* `POST /global/v2/lookup`

Global Catalog MCP is available at `https://catalog.shopify.com/api/ucp/mcp` and provides these UCP catalog tools:

* `search_catalog`: Search for products across all Shopify merchants, with filters, pagination, and buyer context.
* `lookup_catalog`: Look up products or variants by identifier in batches, up to 50 per request.
* `get_product`: Get full product details with variant selection and availability signals.

### What you should do

If your app still calls the Global Catalog REST API, migrate to Global Catalog MCP before November 2, 2026:

1. Switch each REST call to the matching UCP tool:

   * Search (`/global/v2/search`) → `search_catalog`
   * Lookup (`/global/v2/p/{upid}`) and lookup by variant (`/global/v2/p/by-variant/{vid}`) → `get_product`, passing `gid://shopify/p/{upid}` or `gid://shopify/ProductVariant/{id}`
   * Bulk lookup (`/global/v2/lookup`) → `lookup_catalog`

2. Send requests to `https://catalog.shopify.com/api/ucp/mcp`. Include `meta.ucp-agent.profile` with your [agent profile](https://shopify.dev/docs/agents/get-started/profile) URL in every request.

3. If you query a saved catalog, pass its ID as `catalog.catalog_id` instead of using a saved-catalog endpoint URL.

4. Update your app to the [UCP catalog request and response schemas](https://ucp.dev/specification/catalog/).

Authentication doesn't change. You can keep generating bearer tokens from your Dev Dashboard client credentials. To try the tools before you migrate, use the [Shopify AI Toolkit](https://shopify.dev/docs/apps/build/ai-toolkit) or run `ucp catalog search` with the [UCP CLI](https://github.com/Shopify/ucp-cli).

For more details, see the [Global Catalog MCP documentation](https://shopify.dev/docs/agents/catalog/global-catalog).
