# Move existing subscriptions to Shopify App Pricing

Apps that bill with the Billing API can now move their existing subscriptions to Shopify App Pricing by using the migration tool in the Partner Dashboard or new commands in Shopify CLI. Subscriptions move at the start of their next billing cycle, and merchants don’t need to re-approve charges.

## What changed

You can now migrate existing Billing API subscriptions to Shopify App Pricing instead of creating new plans from scratch.

**Migration tool in the Partner Dashboard**: Draft App Pricing plans from your existing manual plans, test them on development stores, and switch to Shopify App Pricing. You can then move simple subscriptions, such as plans without usage charges, to matching App Pricing plans in one click.

**Shopify CLI**: For more complex migration needs, such as usage-based subscriptions, price adjustments, and private plans, you can use `shopify app subscription-migrations` commands. With these commands, you can list stores and their migration status, schedule moves in bulk, and cancel pending migrations that you scheduled in the CLI or with the Partner Dashboard tool.

## Who’s affected

This change affects apps that currently bill merchants with the Billing API and plan to move those subscriptions to Shopify App Pricing. Apps that already use Shopify App Pricing for their subscriptions aren’t affected.

If your app uses subscription types that the Partner Dashboard tool can’t migrate, you need to use the Shopify CLI commands instead.

## What to do

You don’t need to change how your app bills merchants before you can use this migration. To move existing subscriptions:

1. In the Partner Dashboard, create App Pricing plans that match your existing manual plans and test them on development stores.
2. For simple subscriptions that match those plans, use the Partner Dashboard migration tool to move them. These subscriptions will move at the start of their next billing cycle without new merchant approvals.
3. For more complex subscriptions, use the `shopify app subscription-migrations` commands to plan and schedule the migration in bulk and to cancel migrations when you need to adjust your plans.

Confirm that subscriptions move on schedule and bill correctly under Shopify App Pricing before you expand the migration to more stores.
