# Migrate from Storefront MCP

**Removed:**

The catalog and cart tools on `https://{shop}/api/mcp` were removed. Use the [Universal Commerce Protocol (UCP)](https://shopify.dev/docs/agents) instead. For the deprecation announcement, refer to the [developer changelog](https://shopify.dev/changelog/storefront-mcp-cart-tools-are-being-deprecated-in-favour-of-ucp-cart-mcp).

Storefront MCP let AI agents search a store's catalog and manage carts over the Model Context Protocol (MCP). UCP now provides these capabilities at `https://{shop}/api/ucp/mcp`.

## Choose your path

* If you're a merchant and want to add AI chat to your online store without writing code, then use the [Inbox agent](https://help.shopify.com/en/manual/inbox/assigning-your-ai-staff-member) in Shopify Inbox. Before you start, check the [Inbox agent requirements](https://help.shopify.com/en/manual/inbox/assigning-your-ai-staff-member#requirements).

### What changes in your code

* Include an [agent profile](https://shopify.dev/docs/agents/get-started/profile) in every request to `/api/ucp/mcp`.
* Create carts with [`create_cart`](https://shopify.dev/docs/agents/carts-and-checkout/cart-mcp#create_cart). Each [`update_cart`](https://shopify.dev/docs/agents/carts-and-checkout/cart-mcp#update_cart) request replaces the full cart, so send every line item and field that you want to keep.
* Authenticate or sign every request to [Checkout MCP](https://shopify.dev/docs/agents/carts-and-checkout/checkout-mcp).
