# UnsupportedFilterArguments

Filters aren't supported on values passed as arguments to the [`render`](https://shopify.dev/docs/api/liquid/tags/render), [`include`](https://shopify.dev/docs/api/liquid/tags/include), or [`content_for`](https://shopify.dev/docs/api/liquid/tags/content_for) tags. When a filter is applied to an argument, the value is silently passed through unchanged, which can produce unexpected output with no feedback.

To use a filtered value as an argument, apply the filter beforehand with an [`assign`](https://shopify.dev/docs/api/liquid/tags/assign) tag and pass the resulting variable instead.

## Examples

The following examples contain code snippets that either pass or fail this check.

### ✗ Fail

In the following example, a filter is applied directly to an argument passed to the `render` tag. The filter is ignored, so `text` is rendered as `Hello,` instead of `Hello, World!`:

## sections/section.liquid

```liquid
{% render 'paragraph', text: 'Hello,' | append: ' World!' %}
```

### ✓ Pass

In the following example, the filter is applied with an `assign` tag and the resulting variable is passed as the argument:

## sections/section.liquid

```liquid
{% assign text = 'Hello,' | append: ' World!' %}
{% render 'paragraph', text: text %}
```

```
| Parameter | Description |
| - | - |
| `enabled` | Whether this check is enabled. |
| `severity` | The [severity](https://shopify.dev/docs/storefronts/themes/tools/theme-check/configuration#check-severity) of the check. |
## Disabling this check
Disabling this check isn't recommended.
