# Deprecating explicit access grants for app-owned metafields

[Specifying grants for specific apps](https://shopify.dev/docs/api/admin-graphql/2024-07/objects/MetafieldAccess#field-grants) on app-owned metafields is now deprecated. New apps will not be able to use this feature effective immediately. Existing apps will continue to have access.
