Shopify storefronts now support UCP 2026-08-25

Shopify storefronts now advertise support for Universal Commerce Protocol (UCP) version 2026-08-25 in their discovery profiles at /.well-known/ucp. This update adds compatibility with the 2026-08-25 protocol release and doesn’t require any changes to your existing integrations.

What changed

Storefront discovery profiles now declare UCP version 2026-08-25 as a supported protocol version in /.well-known/ucp. Platforms and agents that speak UCP can use a compatible 2026-08-25 profile to negotiate supported capabilities with Shopify storefronts.

The set of capabilities that Shopify supports is unchanged. Only the advertised protocol version and associated compatibility have been updated.

Who’s affected

This change affects:

  • Shopify storefronts that expose a UCP discovery profile at /.well-known/ucp
  • Platforms and agents that use UCP discovery profiles to negotiate capabilities with Shopify storefronts

If your platform or agent already uses UCP discovery profiles for negotiation, it can now treat Shopify storefronts as compatible with the 2026-08-25 protocol version.

What to do

You don’t need to change your storefront configuration or existing UCP integrations. If your platform or agent already supports the 2026-08-25 UCP profile, it can now negotiate capabilities with Shopify storefronts using that version.

If you’re implementing or updating a UCP-compatible platform or agent, follow the profile format and negotiation flow described in the UCP docs.
