Starting September 15, 2026, the Shopify admin has a new look, rolling out progressively to merchants. Apps that use Admin UI extensions and App Home UI extensions pick up the new styles automatically. Apps that render their own interface in App Home keep their current styles until you choose to move to Polaris 2.0.
What merchants will see
- A new look across every page: new color, type, spacing, and icons, inside a new frame
- Search, notifications, and the store picker now in the side navigation, which collapses for more room on the page
- Sidekick moved from a side panel to a floating chat at the bottom of the page
What this means for your app
Admin UI extensions and App Home UI extensions automatically receive the new styles during the rollout. Functionality doesn't change, and you don't need to update extension code to adopt the new appearance.
Apps that render their own interface in App Home keep their existing styles until you choose to adopt Polaris 2.0.
The current Polaris Web Components release candidate is 1.1. A Polaris 2.0 release candidate will be available soon with styles that align App Home interfaces with the refreshed admin. Under the Polaris CDN semantic-versioning model, adopting the new major version is explicit, so merchants never see your app partially updated.
Who's affected
This change affects developers who build experiences in the Shopify admin:
- Admin UI extensions and App Home UI extensions: The new styles apply automatically when the refreshed admin reaches a merchant's shop. No action is required.
- Embedded App Home apps using Polaris Web Components 1.0: Your interface stays as is. You decide if and when to adopt the new styles by moving to Polaris 2.0.
- Embedded App Home apps that don't use Polaris Web Components: Your app keeps its current styles and won’t pick up the new design. Migrating to Polaris Web Components is what positions you to adopt Polaris 2.0
The rollout begins September 15, 2026 and reaches merchants progressively. During the rollout, an app can appear in either the previous or new admin depending on the merchant's shop.
What to do
If you only use Admin UI extensions or App Home UI extensions, no action is required.
If your app renders an embedded App Home interface, there are two paths:
- Prepare for Polaris 2.0: Migrate to Polaris Web Components, and you’ll be able to test the new styles with fewer changes when the 2.0 release candidate lands.
- Keep your current styles: Stay where you are. Your app won’t move to Polaris 2.0 on its own.
No action is required before the Polaris 2.0 release candidate becomes available.
