Shopify App Pricing: Plan Feature Targeting

You can now add store requirements to public plans in Shopify App Pricing. A merchant whose store does not have a required feature cannot subscribe to that plan. Store requirements are optional, so no action is required.

What changed

The plan editor in the Partner Dashboard has a new Store requirements section for public plans. You can select one or both of these requirements:

  • Checkout UI extensions (all pages) and branding customizations: The store can use app customizations on every step of checkout.
  • Direct company catalogs (B2B): The store can assign catalogs directly to its B2B customers.

Shopify checks the requirements on the plan selection page and again when the merchant approves the charge. On the plan selection page, the select button is unavailable on plans that the store does not qualify for.

Who's affected

Store requirements are available only on public plans in Shopify App Pricing. They are not available on private plans or on charges that you create with the Billing API. Requirements do not change existing subscriptions:

  • A merchant with an active subscription keeps the plan when you add or change its requirements.
  • If that subscription is cancelled, then the merchant must meet the current requirements to resume that plan.

Visitors who are not logged in to the Shopify App Store continue to see all of your public plans.

Why this matters

Before this change, a merchant could subscribe to a plan that depended on a feature their store did not have. Store requirements stop that subscription before the merchant pays for functionality that cannot work in their store.

What to do

No action is required. Add a store requirement only when a plan cannot work without the feature. Every store without the feature is blocked from the plan.

To add a store requirement:

  1. Open the plan editor for a public plan. For the full steps, refer to public plans.
  2. Under Store requirements, select the features that the plan needs.
  3. Click Save.
  4. Open your plan selection page from a store that does not have the feature.

The select button on that plan is unavailable, and the message names the missing feature. A store that has the feature can still select the plan.
